No, the reason I didn't specify the names was the information I got was very vague. The boys were called Thomas, David, Donald and George. They were born between 1910 and 1920. All except Thomas were married in Hull, and David and Donald had sons in the early 1940s.

I traced the grandson of another of the brothers, who didn't know much about his great uncles except that his father had told him they had emigrated to Canada. He didn't know whether this was all or some of them, or where they went, so really I'm clutching at straws. I know that - so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm grateful for all the help and suggestions  - and hopeful one of them will lead to finding a long-lost relative!

Lesley,

Not everyone is in to sending blind letters looking for relatives, but in case you consider this option, there are 45 people named MacDougal with one "L" in the Canadian on-line phone directory (gives address too).  Given how recent the immigration was, you are close enough to perhaps make contact with a son or daughter of one of the men who immigrated.

Hello

here is another site for phone numbers and addresses in Canada - I haven't had pop ups here (so far, anyway)

http://www.mytelus.com/phonebook/index.do

there are 55 Macdougals listed

Hi again!

Just tried those sites. Have printed the information, and am now trying to decide whether to write or not!

It's certainly opened up another option for me. Thanks to you both.
