Stewart Janet Married to John Stewart
« on: Wednesday 05 January 22 19:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi all I hope that you all had a merry Christmas and a happy new year..

I'm on my mums acc as shes not well and I have been doing some of the tree as it's my heritage too, I am looking for a bit of assistance if anyone can help. Mum has been looking for a 1 Janet Leckie whom married John Stewart at Killearn Stirlingshire Scotland on 27th May 1828, We have Johns Birth an death certs and looking (in a min) for Janet's birth. I cannot however find Janet's death cert on SP. Mum has 2 poss death info's but cannot find if Janet died in Jeviston like John did. or the other poss death says she passed in Ipswich but I don't know where to start with that as I'm confused as I cannot find anything on her doing anything down there whether she was visiting family or friends I don't know and I cannot find anything on her in the church rec's on SP either. any advice would be greatly received.

kindest regards

Anna

When did John die?  Does his death cert show Janet as still alive?

What is the last census you have them on - when & where was Janet born?

The last child born to John Stewart and Janet Leckie was Janet, born in 1834 Old Monkland.
I suspect that Janet Leckie may have died in childbirth or in the following years. (1834-36).
The 1841 census shows John Stewart with another wife named Isabella as well as children from his 1st wife Janet Leckie - Duncan and Jean.

There is a marriage in Old Monkland in 1836 for a John Stewart and Isabella Craig.

John's death cert states12th Nov Jerviston Camp near Holytown 81yr died of old age. Duncan Stewart son signed the death cert as for his 2 wives he is a widower are named below that. I don't have the census by me right now but I know Janet's on it as is Johns dad Duncan that's how I know they moved from Killearn Stirlingshire Scotland to Jeviston camp which I believe there was work there as they were a farming family

The 1881 census shows John Stewart living in the house of his son Duncan and family in Bothwell at Jerviston Camp.

This is the death certificate for John:
STEWART   JOHN
age 81
1887  Bothwell
625/1 301

You need to read the death certificate for information about his wives.

As his first wife Janet Leckie died about 1832 and before civil registration it is unlikely that you will find a burial record.

That's them thank you. But Johns Second wife was Isabella Wotherspoon not craig so that's a new one to me, I did think that Janet had passed in childbirth the problem is I cannot find Janet's death cert on SP.. And don't know where else to look?!

yup that's his record I have, both of his wives died before John did..... I would love to find out where Janet died, I may have to go to the council to find out where John's buried as I could bet that's where Janet may be buried.
