Military Service

Can anybody give me a guiding hand please.

My grandfather (William George NEWING) b.1896 served during the first world war, I can remember him telling me (I was very young) about being in India and fighting "Johnny Turk".

Is there any way I can find out anything about his military history? His regiment? Service Period? Postings? Medals awarded?

William's father was George NEWING from Barham (31/12/1854) and any info on him would be appreciated as well.

Ken, try this site for the WW1 medal card index. I found my ggrandad on this.

not all of the N surnames have been added yet, only 78%, but worth a try.
Also if you do a search of rootschat for military that may give you other links to try.
