John Birchall and Ann Ashmore marriage Dec/1846 Manchester COMPLETE THANK YOU

I am trying to confirm a possible maiden name for Ann Birchall of John (b.1822) and Ann (b.1823) Birchall. The confirmed info I have is:

Per 1851 (and later) Census:

John Birchall 28 Head Spinner (Cotton) Born: Wigan
Ann Birchall  27  Wife                       Born:Newton-le-Willows

Margaret Birchall 4 Born: Wigan
Ellen Birchall  10? Months Born: Bolton

The possible link I have found in the BDM Index shows both a John Birchall and an Ann Ashmore in the Manchester Volume 20, page 425.

Just wondered if the Birchall-Asmore match could possibly be verified.

Unlike FreeBMD, the Lancashire BMD site shows both partners in a parriage, but gives the year, not the quarter.

And as Manchester Cathedral marriages are well transcribed on the Family Search site http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=true, we can find the exact date: 4 Oct 1846.

Thanks for the replies. I am not as well versed in the data sources available as I should be it seems. There do seem to be only a limited number of possibilities though, which is encouraging.

I suppose I will try to trace the possible  "Annes" back to find one linked to Newton-Le-Willows born about 1823.

I would say your best chance is to order one of the children's birth certificates there is only one Ellen Birchall on freebmd births for Bolton 1850:
