The Elizabeth GORRINGE, widow, in the Glynde 1841, 1851 & 1861 censuses is the widow of Thomas GORRINGE who with his wife Elizabeth and children Frances (9), Harriett (7), William (5) and Grace (4) was removed from Ringmer to Glynde by an 11 Nov 1815 order, confirmed after appeal on 12 Jan 1816 [ESRO/Par.461/32/2/81 & 89]. This family lived in a cottage on Moor Lane, Glynde (just south of the Ringmer parish boundary) that still exists and was at that time the cottage of the gamekeeper - huntsman of the Glynde estate.
He is identified by the 31 Jan 1829 will of his father, William GORRINGE of Ringmer, lab, [ESRO/SM/D12-407] as his son Thomas GORRINGE of Glynde, husbandman. Thomas was bapt at Ringmer 12 Oct 1783, the 7th of 8 children of William GORRINGE (detailed ancestry and obituary available) and his wife Fanny (nee FINCH), who was the daughter of a Ringmer blacksmith and parish clerk, who also has a long ancestry.
The eldest son of this family, bapt at Ringmer 30 Oct 1767 (6 months after his parents' marriage) was a William GORRINGE. I have assumed he is the William GORRINGE who with a wife Hannah had a son William bapt at Ringmer 20 May 1792, prior to Hannah's burial at Ringmer 27 Dec 1792.
A William GORRINGE with a wife Sarah and children William (5), Hannah (4) and Mary Ann (2) was deported back to Ringmer from St Mary in the Castle, Hastings, on 20 Jan 1823, I have assumed this is the William born in 1792.
