Hi Jake,

It will be interesting to see what his military papers have to say once you receive them.  Perhaps there will be a clue in there.

I have a lady in Miami who is going to do some ground work on Bella and Mr. E. Barnes.

Will keep you posted as soon as I hear something.

Fingers crossed!

Hi Jake,
There is a link at the bottom of this page advising you can write to Barnado's requesting information on the Home Children that went through that organisation

Jake,

The only man who fits in the 1911 Canadian census is  Fredric Barnes born July 1892  England. He
immigrated 1911  He is a boarder in Berlin (now Kitchener) Waterloo North  Living  24 Filbert St

You can go to http://allcensusrecords.com/  Click on CANADA, then 1911 then use the links provided to view the free census images at Library & Archives Canada. You need to find page 17, Sub-District  20 , District 130 for Berlin, Waterloo, Ontario. The online census images are NOT searchable by name, only by location.

I've sent for records from Barnardo's, it is a bit pricey but depends how badly you want them. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/ships/

You can contact Barnardo's at aftercare@barnardos.org.uk

Have you visited Marj Kholi's "Young Immigrants to Canada" website?

Hello Jake

I found there is a Frederic Barnes in Berlin, Ontario in 1911 census. Frederic is born July 1892. He is listed as a boarder in the home of Oris & Annie Barnas and works in a shoefactory. You can access all the full census image here:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test16.jsp?id=126946

Hope it's him. I know how difficult it is. I have a Barnardo relative. Gook luck.
