Looking at batch no.'s
« on: Monday 03 April 06 14:04 BST (UK) »
I'm visiting Worthing Library tomorrow with the intention of looking at IGI batch no.'s is there anything I need to know or be aware of so that it isn't a wasted trip or that I don't get all the info i need?  I have the microfilm reader booked!  Any advice would be most welcome.

Hi Sue

Do you mean the LDS family history centre or the public library?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you are going to be looking at batch numbers - do you mean parish registers?

Sue,

There is a useful website that gives IGI batch numbers.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm

Is this what you are after ?

I have the numbers to look up and I'm hoping that i will see the parish registers, will I?  I'm going to the library which apparently has the records although there is a LDS office in Worthing but I was told the library has the records too, do you know if this is right?
Thank you

Hi Sue

It looks as if Worthing library does have copies of the parish registers, yes:

http://www.familia.org.uk/services/england/west_sussex.html

As far as I am aware (if it's the same as Kent libraries) you select the films and/or fiche for the towns/villages that you wish to check baptisms, marriages, burials etc. - don't think it's anything to do with batch numbers from the IGI - please correct me if I'm wrong somebody ;)

It will help if you have already found some entries on the IGI as you will already have the dates/places and it will be quicker to find them in the copies of the original registers.

Have a nice day

Hi Casalguidi

Many thanks for that, I shall check on dates and places now so I am well organised and hopefully much will be achieved!

Sue, just in case you've not seen original parish registers before, this is what you will be looking at (these are just random ones for Cobham in Kent):

Marriages 1837 onwards .............

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0b0/

Marriages 1754-1837 ...............

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0b1/

Baptisms 1812 onwards ...........

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0b2/

Burials 1812 onwards ...............

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0b3/

Baptisms/Burials pre 1812 and marriages pre 1754 ;D

I hope you have a very productive day :)

Hi Casalguidi

You were right, I hadn't seen parish records before but now as they say forewarned is forearmed I shall know what to expect.
Many thanks for your help
