Attaining old Divorce or Annulment Records
« on: Monday 15 May 06 19:57 BST (UK) »
Hello

I was wondering if there is a record office that holds records of divorce or annulment in the UK.  We are trying to find out about a marriage from 1921, that didn't last very long. Researching family history, and we are in Canada, so it's hard to know where to look for this information.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

The National Archives at Kew hold records of divorce actions 1858-1937 (Class J77), closed until they are 75 years old.  The yalso hold indexes for records 1858-1958 (in class J78), with a 30 year closure rule.

Copies of decrees absolute for divorces since 1938 are apparently held at Prinicpal Registry of Family Division at First Avenue House in London.
