Can you say a little more about the family?  Why did you post in Gloucestershire?  Is that where they came from - you don't give places of birth.

A quick search does not find them in 1901, so any other information would help.

Thanks for your reply.
I posted in Gloucestershire as I believe that was the county for Plymouth area in the 1800's - was I wrong ?
I have the birth certificate for the daughter Marian which gives the info that I provided for the Plymouth address.
As for the Gould family , yes quite a coincidence.

Do you have any further info on the family - father's occupation, mother's maiden name, them on previous census etc?

The Birth cert for Marian Ellen was issued 30/04/1896
- d.o.b 19/03/1896
Father : William Henry James Shepherd - Occupation Wall mason
Mother: Marian Ellen Shepherd formerly Phillips
Address: 28 Flora street, Plymouth

Marian married Arthur LOWE at  age 22 at Plymouth register office on 29/10/1918 .  Her address then was given as 25 Cambridge street, Plymouth
Arthur LOWE was aged 24 years - Occupation Painter H.M.Dockyard, army pensioner, address 8 Hampton Place, plymouth.   Father was George LOWE (deceased) occupation Blacksmith - I am also unable to find this Lowe family previous to 1918

So William SHEPHERD and William GOULD were both masons?  Curiouser and curiouser.

Will look for him in earlier censuses.

What did Marian say about her father when she married?  Have you located a marriage for her parents?

William and Marian GOULD are in the same place in 1891 - will look for the SHEPHERDs too.  He is a mason as in 1901.
