« on: Tuesday 27 February 07 10:23 GMT (UK) »
Sorry - just realised I sent request to wrong site ::) ::) ::).   Is this correct spelling for Pately Bridge, and which Riding is it in.  My grandmother Jane Pattison was christened about 1881/2/3.  Any idea how I can access records.  thank you.

Evening Pels, thank you for info.  She was Lavinia Jane Pattison or Jane Lavinia, and would have been born early 1880's.  Mother/Father -don't know first names, but his occupation would have either been hawker or gypsy.  She had siblings, Alfie, Margaret, but they could have been born somewhere else. I just remember my dad telling me about Pateley Bridge.  Thanks. whpool

Hi again!  :D

It was the Jane that threw me, but here we are:

1891 census
RG12/3999, folio 112, page 32

Yorkshire, Cleveland, Redcar

2 Smith Street

Thomas Pattison, h. mar. 27, Hawker, b. Durham, Hartlepool
Ellen, wife, mar. 21, b. Durham, Hartlepool
Lovinia, dau. 4, b. Yorkshire, Pateley Bridge
Margaret, dau. 2, b. Yorks. Redcar
John W. son, 4 days, b. Yorkshire, Redcar

I have to go out shortly but will happily try to follow this up in 1901
if someone else hasn't already managed it.

Kind regards,

Pels  :)

Good morning, thanks for info. but I don't know if this is the correct one. I have found marriage to William Ward, West Hartlepool, in 1902 [haven't got certificate yet to show her age at marriage] but your dates would put her at 15 for marriage....but.....Hartlepool, Redcar, Pateley Bridge - they all seem to be the right towns.  I'm trying to get a bit more info. from family, but any help in the meantime would be great.  thank you.  :) :) :) :)

Morning Pels,
Sorry to be a nuisance, but did you find out any more info?  Talking to family, they didn't seem too surprised if Lovinia married at age 15..... could you see if this is the same Lovinia who married William Ward in 1902 in West Hartlepool.  Thank you,
whpool. :)

Hi again  :) I was just about to post this, so I'll continue .. ..

They were an elusive lot - I've searched high and low, nothing else I'm afraid ..  :(

I've seen the marriage you are referring to - it seems unlikely but in those days it wasn't illegal for a 15 year old to be married with parental consent.

Also tried William Ward in 1901 for curiosity, but it was quite a common name in that area?

Have you managed to find anything else which might be of help -however small?

Kind regards,

Pels

I've just found a death for someone who could be Ellen.

Death, Sept. qtr. 1908

Ellen Pattison, age 38

Guisbro' Vol. 9d, page 313

If this is the mother of Lovinia - the family might still have been in the Redcar area in 1901? To be honest when I say the name Lavinia - it could sound like Lovinia to an enumerator .. ..  ::)

Will keep looking - this is intruiging!  :)

Hello again. I'm just going round in circles - happened upon household record for 1881 British census which shows lots of Pattisons. -All living in one household in Stockton on Tees. William [head age 29,born Durham, England] his wife [Margret -note spelling, aged 25, [born West Hartlepool] daughter Levinia [spelling again] aged 2, born Redcar.
Then William father [head] aged 54 [born Banwell, Tydale - do you know where this is?] and his wife Lavinia [spelling!] aged 44,[born Yarm, York] with sons George age 21, Thomas age 19, [both born West Hartlepool]. Daughters Elizabeth age 14, Mary Ann age 6 [born Spennymoor] son John age 4 [born Rotherham] and son William age 2 [born C..eel, York ?].
They're a confusing lot with different spellings/ birthplaces and another son named William? don't get that one.  The important thing going for this find is that William snr. & jnr. are shown as tin plate workers - this rings true.
Yours in confusion, :-\
