Can this picture be restored?

Would it be possible to clear up this picture of my Great Grandparents and their daughters?

You help will be appreciated.

yes it can be restored..work in progess..:))
If anyone has problems with scans or prints etc see this link..

Scan at better than 300 dpi if possible..if you do not know how just ask

Here's my attempt at a restoration. First time I have tried this but getting worried now.....this could be as addictive as the whole family tree thing AARRGGHH!! LOL

Anyway hope I havent embarrassed myself - its such a lovely pic.

Hi Pete and KBG,

Good starts on the difficult task.  I have a question -- is it because of the tear in the picture that the older girl's face seems out of focus?

I prefer to have it restored with the colour/appearance of what it is -- a photo taken 1893.  Will that work?
