Hi Thommo

The names are not super common so it may be relatively easy to find them. I know little about where one lived on the canal boats (I am in Australia) but I have found these records on FreeBDM which are possibles

Birth Dec 1909 Fereday Alfred William  Wolverhampton  6b 579
Birth Sep 1913 Macdonald  Evelyn Evans Wolverhampton 6b 1198

With a birth on June 20, they could have missed the Jun Qtr  :)

The mother's maiden name is Evans (for Evelyn).  Was Jennifer Whitehouse your g grans maiden or married name? I've been looking for a marriage of a Jennifer Evans without success at the minute. THe marriage certificate for Alfred and Evelyn might help with names

Edit: Obviously your g grans married name was McDonald - sorry for the question - either she was previously married or the birth above for Evelyn is not correct

jennifer whitehouse was my ggrans maiden name thts what one of my aunts told me but my prob is she as not got much memory and forgets hence my prob . the reason i thought my nan evelyn fereday had a maiden name of mc donald is i remember my dad talking of his granny mcdonald but not very often sadly dad died 2 years ago so i cant ask anyone other than this aunt. is there anyway to find a marriage certificate for them not knowing the district they married in ... thanks for your reply

To answer your question - do you know approx year when they married (when did your gran have her first child?) There probably won't be alot of couples with the same name at the right time. You will have to manually check the images at

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx  - I was just looking for Alfred's death - didn't find it in 1975  :(

I have found a marriage that is probably the parents of the Evelyn I have found Sep 1913
Dec 1911 Evans Jane Wolverhampton 6b 1177
Dec 1911 Enoch C McDonald Wolverhampton 6b 1177

Perhaps the start would be to buy the certificate for Evelyn. You could pay the extra to check that the date is correct & you have the right person. Free BDM is not 100% for this period, so you could check the births on the images for any other births for an Evelyn McDonald - I am trying to do this with some difficulty

I wonder if Jennifer Whitehouse could be the mother of Alfred rather than Evelyn - would that be possible?

    Hi Trish....

I would think so.....when looking for a marriage I normally start at them marrying at 20 years old that seemed to be a thing with a lot of mine.

Ther are lots of Feredays in the midland reg disticts West Bromwich/Walsall areas.
