Anyone want to clean my caravan?
« on: Friday 06 July 07 15:03 BST (UK) »
Since quite a few of you seem to enjoy playing around with my pictures, I thought you might like this one. Not much hope for the faces, I fear, as they're rather out of focus, but it could make a lovely picture with some colouring. Unfortunately it was scanned by someone else in B&W at only 300dpi, and I don't have the original.

It was c.1919, and the little boy in his mum's arms was my father, but I have no idea what the occasion was.

Would it be a Romany caravan? Did people take caravan holidays in those days? The man on the caravan appears to be wearing a necktie, which doesn't suggest Romany to me, though I'm happy to be corrected by someone who actually knows about these things . . .  :-\

Hope you have some fun with it.  ;)

looks like a Reading Waggon to me Mike, but as I am no expert on these types of vehicles I would suggest that you place a link on the Travelling People board to this photograph as someone on there would, I am sure, give you a correct answer.

Thanks for the links. From checking them it looks as if it might be a Ledge waggon, because of the way the sides are stepped out above the wheels, rather than sloping outwards like a Reading . . . wow, I'm an expert already!  ::) ::) ::)

Can't wait to see a coloured version . . . might even have to make time to have a go myself, having looked at some of the tutorials at the top of the page . . .

Undecided about the sign board . . . I thought at first it was a folding table, now I'm not so sure.  :-\
