From personal experience only, I believe they are added to, but I have never noticed any "corrections" as such to existing records.

The following is taken from the FAQ page of familysearch.org

Q:How often will the site be updated?

A: New web sites are added daily.

Updated versions of collections such as Ancestral File, the International Genealogical Index, and the Family History Library Catalog™ will be put online as soon as they are made available to the public.

I've noticed that some recent search results have been cluttered by multiple copies of "submitted" entries, sometimes with dates varying by a few days or a couple of years.

It may be that people are trying to submit corrections, but, with no indication as to which may be the amendments, it just makes the searches more difficult to plough through.

A lot of those submitted entries seem to be by people who have done their family tree, and submitted it to LDS. Unfortunately their trees often contain guesses. I have found, that sometimes, where a person can't find a baptism, they have taken twenty years off a marriage date and given that as the year of the person's birth. The place of the marriage is often given then as the person's birthplace. I have found several of my ancestors included in this way, when I know it is the wrong date and place of birth.
Best wishes, Judy :-))

Yes the IGI is constantly being added too.
You will not see any corrections to the IGI as it is as near as possible 100% correct.
Do not forget what the IGI is indexing - Ordinances of the LDS Church.

Thanks Guy, that confirms what I have always thought. I find it worth while to return to check for missing folks every so often  :)

Quite a few years ago, I submitted my Family Tree to the LDS site. Everything went through okay, and I was noted as the source of the information.

During recent searches of the LDS site, I've noticed some changes with some of my original Family Tree members which I submitted those years ago. And whereas I was previously listed as the source of the information, it now indicates no source.

There have been quite a few of these "amendments" I have discovered, and I just had a quick look at LDS site to give you an example;

I originally gave the information to the birth of one ancestor as "Salisbury, Wiltshire". It now appears as "Salesbury, Lancashire"! I'm not listed as the source as I was originally. Another has mistakenly given the birthplace of my grandmother to my grandfather, her place of birth now being where she was married!

Yes, be careful of the LDS site. Somebody(?) does update records, albiet incorrectly. Though to be fair, I have obtained a lot of invaluable information from the site, most of it correct (I think?).

A note of warning here.
I feel there is confusion when mentioning the IGI some seem to think the familysearch site is the IGI but remember familysearch includes

IGI
Ancestral File
Census
Pedigree Resource File
US Social Security Death Index
Vital Records Index
(submitted) Family History Web Sites
