Family name Siaul
« on: Sunday 16 September 07 07:51 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find any info on my gg grandfather James Siaul. He was born around 1840 and married to Ann Mcdonald in 1866 at Dalkeith. His parents were Dennis Siaul and Bridget???

Also any info on his wife Ann would be helpful. Her parents were James Mcdonald and Ann ?Savage. Ann was born around 1842.

Thanks
Lozza

Hi again,

James Siaul b 1876 in Carrington Midlothian on SP website (not on IGI)
Carrington is very near Temple.
It maybe worth downloading certificate of James.

Tom

Scotland - Buchanan, Thomson, Pat(t)erson, Stewart, Ritchie, Tracey
Ireland - Tracey, Conroy, Pat(t)erson.

Hi Tom

I'm Pretty sure that Bridget is James' daughter born in 1866 so James born in 1876 could be a son. This could give me another lead .

Thanks for the help

Lozza

Not sure if you have this - the 1871 surname is from a source who says it is PAUL and the 1881 is from 2 Sources who say it is says SAUL or SAULS

1871: Borthwick, Midlothian
Ref: Parish 674, ED 1, pg 15
Address: Villiage South Midd Caton
Head: James PAUL 30, Quarry Labourer, b Ireland
Wife: Ann PAUL 28, b Ireland
Dau: Bridget PAUL 4, b Temple Edinburgh
Dau: Catherine PAUL 3,  b Borthwick Edinburgh
Son: John PAUL 1, b Borthwick Edinburgh
Lodger: Mary BOGANS 41, Farm Servant, b Ireland

1881: Dalkeith, Midlothian
Ref: Parish 683, ED 14, Pg 19
Address: No. 23  Cowden Cottage
Head: James SAUL 35, Labourer At C Work , b Ireland

Son: John SAUL 11, b Borthwick Edinburgh
Son: Peter SAUL 7, b Lochgelly, Fife
Son: James SAUL 5, b Cockpen, Edinburgh
Dau: Rosan SAUL 1, b Dalkeith, Edinburgh
Son: Bartie SAUL 29 days, b Dalkeith, Edinburgh

As well as James SIAUL born 1876, mentioned above the IGI has births to parents James SAUL and Ann  (I searched Ann's name as McDONALD, but these all came up in result):

Catherine SAUL  21 Sep 1867 Borthwick - mms: McDONNELL
John SAUL 16 Jun 1869 Borthwick - mms: McDONNELL
Ann SAULS 9 Aug 1872 Borthwick - mms: MsDONNELL
Peter SAUL  - 2 Jul  1874   Auchterderran, Fife - mms McDONALD

The family is in Cockpen 1891 (James 46, Ann 47) and 1901 (James 58, Ann 57)  - let us know if you want the details?

Address: Middleton Lime Works
Head: John SAUL 27, Quarry Labourer, b Ireland
Wife: Catherine SAUL , 24, b Ireland
Son: Dennis SAUL 4, b Borthwick
Dau: Mary Ann SAUL 2, b Borthwick

Marriage: John SAUL and Catherine DOYLE 26 Nov 1866, Dalkeith Mdl.

Births to those named parents:

Mary SAUL 15 Jul 1868 Borthwick

Hi

Yes it certainley does all point to Ireland!
I would think the Census above (with exception of that 1861) are almost certainley your target family - with the parents born Ireland.
(I was just reading your other topic:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,254963.msg1424337.html#msg1424337

The SP marriage cert of John and Catherine, would hopefuilly at least James and John are brothers with the same parents.

I just found this:

The IGI also has children born in Meath, Ireland to a Thomas SAUL and Catherine BLAKE:
George SAUL 19 mar 1866 Drumcondra, Meath
Denis SAUL 12 Nov 1868 Meath
Bridget SAUL  18 mar 1874 Meath

And on Griffiths Valuation lists for Drumcondra:
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/meath/drumcondra.htm

Are a Denis SAUL and 2 Peter SAUL's
