LOST War Medal found in Coventry UPDATE
« on: Monday 07 January 08 19:17 GMT (UK) »
There is an article in todays Coventry Evening telegraph concerning a war medal which was found the War Memorial Park after the remembrance parade, so I thought I would also put some of the info on here in the hope that it will be claimed:

The WW2 Air Raid Precautions (APR) medal was found along with a photo of a WW1 soldier, demob certificate and ID card. The soldier was Private Patrick Bennett of the Royal Irish Fusiliersn who was born in 1880.

There is a contact phone number (which i will give if you PM me) - not sure what the rules on putting up telephone numbers are?

Hi,
I'm looking forward to watching this story unfold :) It looks to be the perfect RootsChat mystery for RC's to get their teeth into. I do hope it has a happy ending.

good luck

Hi Tony, quite agree, it must have been so upsetting for whoever is was when they realised they had lost it.
Fingers crossed for a happy ending like you said.

Might as well make a start then. I think this is Patrick

And it has his parent's address at the time :)

Cheers

Oops false start :( I assumed the WWI photo was of somebody who had died, but not necessarily so as I have just seen having read the Coventry Evening Telegraph. All the items relate to the same person.

So back to the drawing board.

Sorry Tony, perhaps I should have given more info in my original post, thank you for starting the search though

I've put this in the Warwickshire board as I have assumed that the family are from Coventry but perhaps not? Do you think I should add it to another board as well - the army one or maybe the Irish one?

I'd go for the army boards, there are some great people watching there :)

Cheers

Hi Tony,

I've taken your advice  :D and posted in the army board.

I've found his medal card, but no luck so far with service record.

Hi,

Update on this is that the owners have still not come forward or been found  :(

The medal has now been identified as a local defence force emergency service medal, it has a gaelic inscription on it and the dates 1939-1946.

Any ideas from anyone about where to go from here?
Thankyou
