Lookup request Harper
« on: Thursday 17 January 08 11:06 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find about one of my ancestors who was born in London on 12/12/1894. He must have been one of the home children, as I have found (after a very long time) his Attestation Papers dated 17/09/1915 at Stratford, Ontario.

Can anyone help find the details of his voyage to Canada?

Thanks.
David.

HI David

If you go to the Library & ARchives of Canada site you will find Ernest Harper sailed to Canada on the Tunisian in 1902.  You can also look at the original passengers lists on the same site.

Thanks Karen,

Ive found him in the automatedgenealogy website but im having difficulty understanding it. Its been transcribed, but it doesnt look like anything from our census returns.

Is there a way of finding the original to read like ours are?

Yes, if you look at the top you will see in blue letters "SPLIT VIEW", click on that and will bring up the original census.

Thanks guys! Youve been really great. But one thing ive noticed is that the details on the 1911 census and the details about his voyage over to Canada dont seem to match up!

??? Is it the right Ernest Harper?

Well, perhaps he was in the field the day the enumerator showed up and his "boss" didn't know and just gave that date?

You should order the full file, there may be some clues in it.
