Wounded WW1 soldiers convalescing
« on: Friday 07 January 05 14:08 GMT (UK) »
I have an autograph book filled with signatures/photos & drawings of WW1 soldiers and nurses convalescing at the home of my Gt.Grandmother in Stockport, Ches. between 1915 and 1923. The book belonged to my late mother, and although of sentimental value to me, I would be very happy to hear from any researcher related to the below & requesting a copy of the relevant page.
Driver H Patchett, R.A.M.E. of Fallowfield
Pte. F Law 20864, 11th Royal Scots
D (or poss.N) Flynn at St Georges Mil. Hosp. Stockport
Pte.I Emble(r?) 1/4 Royal Berks. Regt.
Pte. A E (Gite/ or poss. Pike) 1st Northants. Regt.
Pte. W (Pharoah??) 12th Royal Sussex Regt.(Drawing with this one).
George M Farrow, 18th Australian Commonwealth(Drawing with this one).
Pte. (I?) Joinson, of 1028 Dufferin St., Toronto, Canada. (At Lily Lane Hosp.)
Richard (or Richete) Welsh wounded at Jutland.
Cpl. A Brown, Northamptonshire Regt.
Pte. George ?, 2nd Batt. Monmothshire Regt.
Pte. Joseph Mahon, 193 Leinster Regt. Ireland.
Rfm. Jack O'Brien, 1/8th Scottish Rifles(Cameronians)
Sapper G Harmon36514, 61st Field Coy., 14th Div., B.E.F.
Pte. Geo. Smith 25583, 6th Batt. K.O.Y.L.I.
Sgt.Mjr. Ed. Folry, K.O.S.B.
Pte. J Morgan, 2nd Border Brig.
Trooper William Smith, 1st Roy.Dragoons, Natal
Pte. J Bell, 1/7 Man. Coy.(T>F>)
Pte. G J Wells, 11th Batt. A.J.F.
Pte. A R Lees (M.T.) A.S.C.
Nurse Mollie E Smaling - 1915.
Nurse Emily Dawson.
These are just a few, some I am unable to read, others sign only their first names.
Obadiah.

To follow up on the last entry and to deviate from the main theme, please have a look at the information on the VAD, who provided most of the non military nurses for the army. There are several pictures of the uniform etc, as well as a few extract from letter, on the following site.

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWnurses.htm

Hope this is of use and doe not detract from the main item.

Rod
Jones, Ellis, Barker, Bates, Hackney, Cooper, Kirk, Eyre, Davies, Harris, Doney & Pearce.
Sussex, Cornwall, Lincolnshire, to name but a few!

Sorry, Roseanne, Unfortunately no nurse of that name in the book, or with initials that would match.  Good luck with your hunt.

Hello, manmack.  Quite happy to help John Hartley if at all possible.  My Gt.Grandmothers address was 255 Wellington Road.
Have to say though, that most of the names seem to be of soldiers from outside the Cheshire/Lancs. area.
Not sure how I communicate the pages to him, still a bit of a novice at it!
Obadiah.
