Look up Mathias COCKERTON, Kent

Please could someone find any information regarding Mathias Cockerton, named  as George Cockerton father on Georges marriage certificate in 1842.  Fathers occupation given as Blacksmith.

The certificate does not state that his father is deceased.
George was born in Maidstone abt 1784.

The IGI has an extracted baptism for a Mathias COCKERTON at Westerham, Kent, on 31 Oct 1754, parents William Cockerton and Rebecca. He would fit the timeframe.

Nothing on the census that I can find initially, so he may have died before 1841.

Did your George marry a Rachel?

Yes George did marry Rachael Brown (widow) in June 1842. George first wife was Sarah but she died in January 1842.  Do you have information regarding the Cockerton Family ?

I do have census informaion on George & Sarah Cockerton in 1841, George & Rachel 1851 and George is widowed in 1861.

Would someone please look up who Matthias Cockerton married and if they had any other children other than George please.

Can not find anything about George on the IGI, but looking there further there are a number of possible siblings to the Mathias I mentioned earlier, all baptised at Westerham from 1736 to 1752, both brothers and sisters. The Mathias was the youngest.

1851 census has a Henry Cockerton born c1793 at Maidstone, who could be a brother of George. Does not appear to be a very common name in Kent in 1851, only George, Henry and a Samuel born Woolwich.

Any new news on Matthias or Mathias COCKERTON ? Occupation Blacksmith

Who did he marry ? and who were his children ?

I cannot find his marriage on the IGI but known to have been christened 1754 at Westerham, Kent.
Parents William Cockerton & Rebecca.

I think he died prior to 1841 as not on any census.

Please could someone look for a marriage of Matthias Cockerton possibly to Mary. It would be around 1780- 1790.
Maidstone, Kent. I am interested in finding out his wifes maiden name. The spelling of Matthias may vary.

I can find thier childrens births on the IGI with father Matthias Cockerton and the mother is named as Mary on some baptisms but on earlier baptisms the mother is named as Massey. Could Massey be the surname of Mary ?
I think the marriage took place in Maidstone, but Matthias originated from Westerham
Childrren were George 1784 Maidstone
                        William   1787 Maidstone
                        William    1792 Maidstone

I have not got any further with the search for this marriage and I cannot find them on the IGI.

Please can anyone advise what to do now.  I am unable to get to Kent to look personally.
