Hi Willy's son

Glad you found your way here  :D

I think Charles Wood(s) is a bit more tricky to find than his son  :(

As I said on the other thread:

Quote
I've looked for Wood/Woods in the Ulverston area in 1861. The onle couple who were having children were:

Sunderland Terrace, Ulverston
RG9/3168 Folio 14 Page 22

John Wood, 27, Butcher, b. Cumberland, Drigg
Sarah, 23, b. Lancashire, Kirkby (?)
Fanny, 7 months, b. Ulverston

There is also an interesting possibility:

?Sontergate, Ulverston
RG9/3168 Folio 76 Page 12

Betsy Wilson, wid, 51, Laundress, b. Lancs, ? Egeton cum Newland
James, s, unm, 22, shoemaker, b. Lancs, ?Greenodd
Thomas,s, unm. 20, brush maker (app),  b. Lancs,  Greenodd
John, s, unm, 16, clogger (ap), b. Ulverston
James C Wood, boarder, 2, b. Ulverston*

* another one to scrap - the C is for Christopher

I followed up the Ulverston couple to check if they had a Charles later but nothing on the 1871. John was still a butcher in Ulverston and they'd had quite a few children in the 10 years but no Charles :-\

I also had a look on the 1910 and 1920 USA censuses for any clues - there are quite a lot of Charles Wood(s) born England but none of the ones that I looked at seemed to match. The Charles (plasterer) one with Catherine seemed to fit, except that they'd been married over 20 years on the 1910  :(

I'll keep looking and I hope others will as well.

He could have been born somewhere else but where? He could have changed his name .......  :(

Best regards

KarenM has found a possible in 1881.

RG11/3986/88 Page 5

Charles H. Wood age 19, painter & paper hanger, born Manchester, Lancs

He has a brother William, age 22, same occupation, same birth place , living at the same address.

Hi all
I have been away for a few days but once again many are stepping in and helping.
Thanks everyone for all your help.
If we are as successful as before I know he will be found.

Thank you everyone for all the work you have done researching the Woods family.

My mother, Dorothy Beatrice Viola Woods was James Woods' daughter and I am his grand daughter (adopted).

We had been told that James was a "Home Child", a "Barnardo Boy" and that he had been at the "Loyal True Blue and Orange Home".  How exciting to finally have some real direction!
Should anyone be interested in this branch of the family, I would be more than happy to share what information I have.
