« on: Thursday 29 May 08 17:10 BST (UK) »
hi everyone
looking for more info on Emma Baker b1884 England...Emma is found with husband William Chads and young family living in Roberts Street, Winnipeg, census info says she immigrated to Canada 1897...would love to know when and what ship she arrived on....was she a "home child"?
In 1911  census i can't find Emma, but her children are found in a childrens home,Rivers Ave, Winnipeg...what happened to Emma and kids...I know that her husband settled in Scotland about 1911/12 and died there. thanks for reading this.

http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php
 - shows the marriage of Emma Baker and William Granville Chads, certificate would tell you more about Emma.

http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action - has an entry for Emma Baker, b. abt 1884, going to Canada in 1897.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,258889.0.html - I see you already have some of this information. As they were in a children's home they might have been adopted out... hard to find in that case.

Ship Manifest

Last name: Baker
First name: Emma
Year of departure: 1897
Departure port: Liverpool
Ship name: Vancouver
Destination country: Canada
Destination port: Quebec

Here is a link to "free" manifests on the National Archives Canada site.  Unfortunately, they are not indexed. You will have to search manually. (hint: most are alphabetical, and in order of 1st / 2nd & 3rd class. U.S. Passengers (if any) will be listed at the very end.)
