« on: Monday 22 September 08 16:14 BST (UK) »
Trying to find Charles S.Clubb(born 1863 Old Deer Scotland) & his wife Maggie (nee Copland). They married in 1886,in Alford,Scotland & Charles gave his address as Old Trafford,Manchester. Have searched scotlandspeople but no trace of them in censuses nor death records.I assume they lived in England.Charles was a police constable. Can anyone find them in 1891 & 1901 censuses?

Hi

In 1891 West Derby RG12/2998 Folio 72 Page 51 there is a couple who look right except he is listed as Thomas S Clubb. He is an Inspector of Weights and Measures.

A daughter is called Ellen C Clubb and from FreeBMD the C stands for Copeland

What do you think ?

Here is the full entry showing Margaret to be five years older than her husband. Does that tie in with their marriage details ?

Just in case you didn't know, Charles' middle name was 'Simpson' according to the Scottish 1871 census :)

Hi

It all seems to point to this being the correct family but with Charles’ name being mistakenly written as Thomas in 1891.

There is no other earlier census entry for a Thomas S Clubb with the same birth details.

Also

On the 1881 Scotland Census there is a Margret Copland (sic) aged 23 from Tough, Aberdeenshire working as a Domestic Servant in ALFORD who looks like she could be the person who became Margaret Clubb in 1886, in the same place.
