Charlotte Pearce COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 28 September 08 14:20 BST (UK) »
Please could some check the 1841 and 51 census for Charlotte Pearce. She was born about 1838 in Lincolnshire and her fathers name, according to the marriage register, was George Pearce. i am trying to find her mothers name. I think ive found George's marriage on the IGI but with put charlottes mothers name i cant be sure it is Charlottes Parents.

Thank you

Hi Helly,

Any idea where in Lincolnshire she was born?

I can see this girl in 1841
HO107/641/8 5 5
Northolme, Lincolnshire

George Pearcy, 40, Ag lab
Sarah, 40
George, 15, Ap Butcher
Ann, 13
Mary, 9
Charlotte, 2

The name is Pearcy on the 1841 census image but she's Pearce in 1851 (in service at Wainfleet)

 :)

I dont know where abouts she was born but the marriage i found on the IGI was George Pierce and Susannah johnson 22 sept 1828 in Gedney.

Could Sarah and Susannah be the same? the marriage could be about right giving allowance for the older boys age being rounded up, and the fact my family seem to be good at changing their names on a whim

I don't know about Sarah / Susan (she still Sarah in 1851) - Pearce is not an uncommon name either  :-\

Where did Charlotte get married? Were there Pearce witnesses? What was George's occupation on Charlotte's marriage cert?

Doesn't it give a more precise birth place for her on any later census at all?  :-\

I can reveal that Northolme is/was also known as Wainfleet St Thomas.

George PEARCY (son of George) married in Wainfleet in 1842 so clearly his age in 1841 had been rounded down).  Perhaps he was almost 20 in 1841.  In any case, ages were never supposed to have been rounded up.

Perhaps his parents were George PEARCY and Sarah HALL who married 21 Dec 1818 at Hogsthorpe

1851 census gives Sarah's PIERCE's birthplace as Legbourne c1798.  A Sarah HALL was bap at Legbourne in 1798.
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Charlotte was married in 1856 to William Southon at all saints wainfleet. from record from freereg and only states fathers names. So the marriage i found looks like it is George Jnrs? and Sarah is Charlottes mother?

My paternal family are so confusing, they change names and the same names run through the family

The 1871 census* shows that her birth place is Northolme - sort of ties in quite nicely, doesn't it?  ;)

(*and 1861 as well by the way)
