Trouble obtaining a birth certificate
« on: Monday 05 January 09 14:03 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Manged to trace my grand mothers birth place as Shorncliffe army barracks. I knew she was born in 1879. I found her in the 1911 census and Shorncliffe was given as her place of birth. So I searched the  GRO REGIMENTAL BIRTH INDICES (1761 to 1924) using the name Brown born 1879 and found her on page 2 of 19

Annie L Brown
Shorncliffe
1879
Cld Gds
Vol 225
Page 17

It seems I cant order a BC without knowing the qtr she was born in? I spoke to online help here

URL removed by moderator as certificates ordered via that particular site are £10 more expensive than those obtained from the government site.

They couldnt find her? Any ideas?

Im going to post this on the military board as well

Thanks
Adrian

That isn't a ref for a GRO birth certificate.

Yes, it looks like a perfectly good reference for an "overseas" certificate, but you do have to pick that option on the Certificate Choice page, immediately after login - Birth Certificate (Overseas Events). (Even though it was not actually overseas!)

Snap.....on FreeBMD the only Annie L Brown born in Kent in 1879 is Annie Louise Brown which is the reference that Rosie just gave you. Was Louise her second name  ???
