McGuire/Horsnell marriages
« on: Friday 20 February 09 16:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Does any one have any connection to these marriages.

John Edward McGuire married Ada Sophia Horsnell 1892 Brompton

Ellen McGuire married Arthur Edgar Horsnell 1900 Holy Trinity Brompton

William Henry McGuire married Grace Horsnell 1906 Gillingham.

I am trying to find out what happened to Annie Mcguire a sister to the above McGuire's, she married an ancestor of mine, James William Beament in 1888 but they seem to have divorced in 1907.

I would like to find out what happened to her & her son James John & just wondered if perhaps any snippet of info had been passed down a family line.

Any help greatfully received.

Hi,

Annie's divorce papers are held at the National Archives at Kew.  You can contact them and ask for an estimate for copying them if you are unable to visit.   Ref:  J77/916/7816 .

You might find some clues there;  I've just had a set of divorce papers from 1903 copied and sent to me......£8.95 (1st class post).  Fascinating reading   ;)

James John BEAMENT b 15 Jun 1888 Kent, England resident in San Francisco (alien) with wife, child of 1 yr and two step children (WW1 draft registration card) - could that be him?

US social security death index says James J BEAMENT born 15 Jun 1889 died Oct 1975.

Thank you both for your replies,

Nanny Jan,

I had seen the divorce papers at the N/A, I shall seek an estimate if that is all you had to pay, brilliant. :D Thank you.

Casalguidi,

Wow, you have found James John ;D, his birth date was 15 June 1889, Gillingham, I am amazed. Is there any more info that I can get about him please, I'm wondering if his Mother Annie also went to the USA.

Thank you very much. :D

Hi Maddie

These entries are from the US Social Security Death Index and I would suggest looking for obituaries (try posting on the US Lookups board if need be)  - US obituaries are generally very informative and they look as though they may be relevant.

James BEAMENT born 15 Jun 1889 died Oct 1975 of Redwood City, San Mateo, California

Myrtle BEAMENT born 8 Apr 1908 died 13 Aug 1998 of San Jose, Santa Clara, California

Hi again Casalguidi

I shall take your advice on Obits & hope I can find something.

Can you tell me if the WW1 registration card would date from 1930, if so that fits in with the census for James & Myrtle & would mean that 13 year old James & the daughter of 9 are both from his first marriage to Christina.

From what you have found JJ must have married about 1908 & presumably in the US, I haven't found any shipping record for him yet but I shall keep looking. :)

Many thanks again you have been a big help. ;D

Hi Maddie

The WW1 (World War One) Registration card would date 1917/1918.  That would definitely be him whilst the census entries are the nearest I could find.
