It will be parish records. (pre-civil registration)
LDS centres could probably order in the film.

Hi ddraig

As Pauline suggests, ordering a copy of the film at your nearest LDS centre would most probably be easiest.

The other alternatives are

1. Contact the London Metropolitan Archives where the actual registers have been deposited. According to their price list a copy will cost you £8.31

http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/LGNL_Services/Leisure_and_culture/Records_and_archives/Visitor_information/price_list.htm

2. Contact the City of Westminster Archives where a copies of the films are also available. They will charge you £4 for a copy

http://www.westminster.gov.uk/libraries/archives/family-history/index.cfm

3. Alternatively, if you can supply me with the names and actual date I can make a transcription for you on one of my future visits, but please note that the Archives is just about to close for at least 2 weeks for refurbishment.

I've printed off your request and put it in my 'to do' file.

I'll let you have a transcription as soon as I can get back to the archives when they reopen after their refurbishment.

Regards

Before I post the details of your look-up, I must say that this marriage is recorded in the register for 'The Parish of Paddington', un-named. St James, Sussex Gardens, wasn't built until 1843, previous to that the parish church was St Mary's on Paddington Green.  The LMA and Westminster Archives use the name St James because when the two churches merged into the one parish in 1843, St James was where all the older registers were sent to and have been catalogued as that.

The marriage is also indexed on the IGI at www.familysearch.org

From the marriage register, Parish of Paddington

Charles Ward of this parish bachelor
and Isabella Janet Cheston of thsi parish spinster
were married in this church by banns
this 9th day of February in the year 1836
by me I G Gifford, Curate
This marriage was solumnized between us
C Ward's X mark
Isabel Jennet Cheston (signed her name, note the spelling)
in the presence of
Wm Hogg (signed his name)
Mary Walker's X mark

Hope this helps
