Housekeeping - Your Help Required
« on: Saturday 21 March 09 05:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks,

Since I am now officially lending a hand on this board, I am trying to do some housekeeping and would appreciate any help I can get.

If you have placed a request and are happy with the information you have received, could please mark your posts COMPLETED. To do this just go to the first post of the thread and use the modify button. You can then add the word COMPLETED to the title. (It must be the first post - not the last) This will save me a lot of time. Thank You.

I find the Sate Resources Threads have become rather messy, a lot of links not working and it is difficult to find the link you are after.

They have served their purpose well, but it is time to replace them, and I have been busy working on the new threads. I used my SA one as the boiler plate, so they will all be uniform. A lot of the links are relevant to more than one state.

If you can help by adding new links please do so on the thread. Once I have checked and added any appropriate ones, I will remove your post from the thread as a matter of good housekeeping. I hope this will enable you to easily find just the link you are after.  ;D

I must apologise for any inconvenience caused by my housekeeping but the board will be better for it. Promise  ;D

Thank You...................Kris  :)

Update!

The new Links are now all up and running. I am well pleased with the result and do hope you all enjoy them.

A Big Thankyou, to the two members who have taken their time to go through their posts and mark them COMPLETED over the last couple of days.  :-* Some of these back to 2006. A huge help not to have to open each and every one of them, read it to decide if it should be moved or not.

When the rest of you have a little time, please help me, by going through your old posts and marking them COMPLETED also.  ;D

All the Best..............Kris  :D

Hi Krisesjoint,
I have just done as you asked and marked completed on my Post.
A suggestion is that after marking completed the one who starts the post also locks the post (bottom left hand corner) lock/unlock.
As until it is locked it still can be added to,
regards,Billy.

Thank You Billy,

We do not recommend locking threads just because they have been completed successfully. We move them to the completed board but they can still be added to. New information which may come to light is always good to receive. You never know who may come along (find the thread through google etc) with connections who may wish to contact you and share information. If they are unable to reply to the thread they may find it very difficult to try to make contact with you. It is a lot more difficult to try to work out how to make contact privately (a new member would need 3 posts to use the PM system.) It would be a shame if by locking your thread you miss out on valuable information or a new contact.

Regards Kris  :)

Hi Kris,
I have also done as you asked - and it took ages!!!
I will remember to do it more frequently now as it filled up my email box several times, but then again it was more than Australia; it was England, Scotland & Ireland as well so I am feeling quite smug now.
Kind regards
Bev

Good point! I never thought about that, I got a bit carried away with the housekeeping.
I will go back and unlock it.

Thank you very much to those of you who have taken the time to mark your posts COMPLETED over the past couple of weeks.   ;D I really do appreciate it. This is a busy board.

It saves me a lot of time going through threads to decide which ones should be moved, valuable time which could be better spend helping others. It also saves me clogging up the board with redirect notices. Sorry I am a compulsive neatnik. I will move them regardless.

I would really appreciate it if you could please look though your posts and mark those which have been completed accordingly. If you mark the thread COMPLETED, I can then move the thread over quietly without posting a redirect ("MOVED" Notification), however if I decide to move it them myself, without being told,  I am afraid I must then leave a notification. (Exception: If the last post to the thread was longer than 3 months ago, I do not leave a redirect)

It is not likely every piece of information available re this person will come to light in just the one request.  There is no limit to the amount of requests you can make on RootsChat.  Please mark your old threads COMPLETED and keep your new requests coming! We really do love them. ;)

Kind Regards............. Kris  :)
