Frederick and Philip GRIFFITHS SA
« on: Saturday 25 April 09 11:39 BST (UK) »
Looking for any info on Frederick Henry Griffiths born 1864 and his brother Philip Griffiths born 1866 in SA, parents Robert Henry and Charlotte Anne nee Winzor. Can find some info on Frederick and his marriage and children, but nothing on Philip? Would love to find out more about Frederick's children and if they had families??
Thanks

Hi Wimbush,

Yes the birth lists Phillip, but the BISA and the death list him as George Philip. I am not sure what you are after here. I do not see any births to Frederick in SA (He did marry in SA) nor do I see any Griffiths marriages listing a father as Frederick. Likewise the death for George Philip lists him as marriage but I see no marriage nor births listed to him in SA

Charlotte appears to have quite a few siblings marrying in SA including a brother Philip George. There are some BISA entries for some of the siblings listing parents as Philip and Eliz and one says born Dorset 1850 arrived 1855 aboard the OCTAVIA

Charlotte Ann WINZAR Mar 1/4 1846 Dorchester 8 55

I also note Robert Richard was listed in Dorchester in 1850 as stated in BISA

The family appear in Bradford Pererell in 1851

Mother Elizabeth 41 Married Masons Wife is the head (Huusband not present) - Sharlotte is 5

Philip WINZER died 28 Jan 1873 Wallaroo Dist Dal 51 33, He was aged 61 Status not Known, Relative not recorded, residence Wallaroo

There is a passenger list for the OCTAVIA

http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/octavia1855.htm

I see a James is listed as single male - perhaps family are WURGER family, son James only looks like being 6 in 1851 so don't know what to think :-\

Philip WINZOR = Elizabeth SAMWAYS by Banns 27 Jan 1834 Fordington Dorset. Witnesses Philip Winzer and Elizabeth Samways

In 1841 oldest child Frederick is 3 (fits with 1851) Philip aged 30 is a plasterer and there is George Samways 60 in the house so this marriage looks great. There is also a Philip Winzer aged 50 a plasterer in Fordington so all fits very nicely.
