Please could someone advise where someone would be buried who had died in June 1891 in Belfast Workhouse?

Thank you.

As you may know there were 2 poor houses in Belfast - the old one on Clifton Street (which was run as a charity) and the workhouse on the Lisburn Road (established under the Poor Law and run by the statutory authorities).

The Clifton Street institution was established in the 1700s - the original building still stands - and had it's own cemetery.

The Lisburn Road site is now the modern Belfast City Hospital. http://www.belfasttrust.hscni.net/bch_menu.html.
http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/jil/ums/inst/hbch_dc.pdf  (for history of the Workhouse/BCH site)

The Clifton Street burial register survives from 1831 and records the following details:-
Date of burial.
Name of deceased.
Profession.
Age.
Address
Grave number
Place of birth.
Cost to open grave.

It is online at http://www.glenravel.com/downloads/pdfs/Clifton%20Cemetery/Registry%20(2006-07-03).pdf

It is arranged chronologically and shows 5 burials in June 1891, but none were residents of 79 Israel Street.

Also some street directories are online at http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/BSDStart.htm

1880 shows that address as vacant
1901 shows a Miss Macauley living there

None of the intervening years are on the site.

Hope this is of some help

It was in the district of Belfast No. 4.
Her husband was Presbyterian, so she may have been, too.  She was aged 36 and was of Israel Street.
