William John SMITH Birth Look up - NSW

Hi,

Would someone please be able to look up the birth of John B Smith in NSW 1886, son to Robert Smith and Margaret (?) Before I order the certificate I need to know that Margaret's maiden name was Wells, otherwise I have the wrong family, and therefore would not be my ancestor. My Great-Grandfather was William John Smith and was born 1887 in Newtown, NSW to Robert Smith and Margaret Wells. There is no recorded birth for William nor a marriage for his parents, but a kind helper suggested I try this John whose birth fits the time and the name is simillar, I just need to make sure Margaret was called Wells, otherwise I would be following a false lead. The certificates aren't cheap, so I would like to be certain!

Hi Anna

You can request a transcription agent to check the registration to see if the correct mother is named. 

Transcriptions are much cheaper than certificates and the information is emailed to you.  Abt $17.

Usually  a birth certificate from  that  time should say where and when  the parents married?  Is this information not included on  the birth certificate?

No I have not found a birth for William John Smith in 1887 NSW but I found the one thanks to the kind helper for John Smith son of Robert and Margaret (?) from the internet database. I have William's marriage certificate though from Queensland and he states his parents as Robert Smith and Margaret Wells and he claims to have been born 1887 Newtown, NSW. There is no record of him in the registry nor of a marriage for his parents. If anyone knows about the marriage between Robert and Margaret (could be another state) that would help too. But for William's birth I have not been able to abtain, so that is why I am hesitant to purchase the one for John Smith incase the mother is not the right Margaret,therefore the wrong child, or that is the most logical explination. Hope this helps!
