RODWELL James aged 18 - County Prison listing as accused or convicted 2 July 1844

1. There appears to be no further trace of James Rodwell. Could someone with access to prison records please look this up to see if we can determine the fate of James Rodwell (believed to be born 1826 or 1827; the son of shoemaker Thomas Rodwell from Salisbury Wiltshire)?

CROSS REFERENCE:
Separate lookup request regarding James Rodwell's father etc :

2. There is also a link on that thread to :

Folios 264-265 James Rodwell, born Wiltshire

Attestation papers to serve in the Royal Marines at Portsmouth (when aged 21).
Discharged [discharge date not given] as [discharge reason not given].

This could possibly be the same James Rodwell. Can anyone help?

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Thanks for this brilliant piece of information. It would seem possible that James Rodwell could have lived beyond this short period of incarceration. However, whatever became of him afterwards still remains a mystery.

Cheers

He could have joined the marines, he does not appear in Wiltshire on the 1851 census.   It may be worth trying to find him on the census in 1851.
