Just to make it quite clear that the information we have is that he was born in the  'Parish of Newbiggin in the County of Northumberland'

The only Parish by this name in Northumberland is Newbiggin by the Sea which was in the Morpeth RD:

Although what John interpreted as parish in 1914, is impossible to decide.

Castana,

Clutching at straws - who were the witnesses to John Seymour's marriage, please?

Hi all, just managed to drag myself away from work! ::)

I'll give you all the details from his marriage cert:

Feb 6 1913 at St.Johns Church, Failsworth, county of Lancaster.
John Seymour aged 27 Batchelor collier of 5 Ash St. Failsworth, father John Seymour (deceased) Collier
Mary Jane SIDLOW 30 Widow Tenter of All Saints, Newton Heath, father James Ashworth (deceased) Fitter

Witnesses: William Jones and Jane Richardson (x her mark).

Hope this throws some light onto this big mystery!! I wonder whether John didn't really know where he was born?? All very strange!

Shame  :(  I was hoping there might have been another Seymour there which might have helped pin the family down.

After doing masses of general census searches, I've now  checked through all 55 pages of Newbiggin on the 1891. I've now moved on to John Seymour deaths - two in Northumberland that might fit  - 1899 in Tynemouth and 1912 in Newcastle/Tyne. He could have died anywhere though  :-\

Also, I've still got my doubts about the father's name on the marriage cert being correct. My grandfather, who was illegitimate, used his own name as his father's on the marriage cert. Luckily, I knew that he was illegitimate or I'd have still been searching for a James Wilson, clerk.

John could easily have done the same.

I've done a search and can't find either of them in 1911?? Not to say someone else could?

I've had a good look, Andrea, but nothing very promising as John Seymour b. 1880-1900  :-\

Castana - have you got a death date/place for him?  I said earlier that an obituary might throw up some relatives.
