John Williams-Ramsgate
« on: Sunday 11 July 10 20:52 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any information regarding my Grandfather who married my Grandmother, Gertrude Bacon at St. George's Church in 1924? He moved to Ramsgate from Wales.

Thank you

Kentishman.

Hello Kentishman,

A very big welcome to RootsChat, I hope you find it really useful.

Do you have any further information about your Grandfather at all, or rather, what information do you already have about him?

Do you know of what piece of information you'd like to know about your Grandfather?

Regards,

Trystan

Hi trystan,

my Grandfather, John Williams, worked in the local Keny coalmine and was buried in Ramsgate cemetary along with his wife, Gertrude Williams.

My Grandfather was married in 1924 at the age of 42 and there were three witnesses to his marriage.
Regards,
kentishman.

That's great stuff - so I'm guessing asking for details of his birth/

What was the name of John's father?  It should be on the marriage certificate.

There is an interesting website about the Kent coalfields:

Hi bearkat,

My Great Grandfather's name was also John which again makes the search more difficult. I have already looked at the Kent coalfields website and tried to obtain info. regarding his employment but many of these details were destroyed when the coalfields were nationalised.
I think he came from South Wales but because it was more recent history(upto 1924) it's proving difficult trying to trace him on any census.
