Forsyth b1840 Birmingham
« on: Monday 19 July 10 04:28 BST (UK) »
Hello

Please can someone help me to trace the ancestry of John Forsyth born 1840/1 in Birmingham, England. He moved a few times so I'm not sure where to post. :)

In 1871, John and Charlotte Forsyth were living in Walsall district, Staffordshire, with their 2 children Thomas and MaryAnn.

By 1881 they were at Railway Terrace, Gresford, Denbighshire, and John was a tilemaker.

I found a possible John Forsyth christening record in LDS site:
John Forsyth
born 12 OCT 1840
christened 22 OCT 1840 at Saint Phillips, Birmingham, Warwick, England
parents John and Ann Forsyth

but can't find him in 1841 or 1851 Census at Birmingham with his parents, and I haven't found him in 1861 either.

I feel there will be a Scotland connection somewhere in John's ancestry so would appreciate any help to trace his parents and Grandparents, etc from Birmingham back to his Scottish roots  :D

Many thanks
Morgan

Hi Morgan,

Not sure, but here's a possible candidate

Birth registration
John Forsith - Dec 1840 Aston 16 167

1841
HO107/977/1 23 8
Aldridge, Staffordshire

Ann Forsaith, 25
John Forsaith, 8 mo
Joseph Newbold(?), 2

(They're all shown as born in county though)

FreeBMD also shows the death of a John Forsyth in Dec quarter 1840, Aston. The lds pilot site has the burial: 11 Dec 1840 at St martin, Birmingham - John Forsyth age 32. Possibly John jr's dad?

1861 shows a J Forsyth age 20 born Birmingham at Hulme Cavalry Barracks (RG9/2890 125 14) - maybe?

Hi Morgan

Seeing as you asked  ;D

There's this marriage  of a John Forsyth:

June q 1868, Walsall, v. 6b p 737

A Charlotte Fisher is on the same page.

You could get the cert which should give his father's name/occupation for confirmation.

Thank you very much, Gadget  :)
I had the reference but I thought perhaps John Fosyth would be an unusual name in Birmingham. Different story if/when we get back to his Scottish roots....

You hadn't mentioned it  ::)

Have you got this? Given the 2 year old Joseph Newbold on the 1841,

The LDS Pilot site has the marriage of a John Forsyth to an Ann Newbold on 1 January 1833, Aston Juxta, Birmingham

Sorry, Gadget  :-[
I didn't post Charlotte's details because I was so intent on finding John's ancestry. (I have more info on Charlotte Fisher's ancestry in Denbighshire)

No didn't have that record, I'm having trouble finding things on LDS Pilot for some reason  ???

Now I need help to identify John Forsyth senior ( 1808-40)  ;)

Now I need help to identify John Forsyth senior ( 1808-40)  ;)

That's a big ask as this was the time when many people were moving to the Birmingham area.  He could have been born anywhere and moved with his parents, or moved as an adult or been born in the area  :-\

It might be that there are family  witnesses on the 1833 marriage that could be chased up but otherwise it is extremely difficult. There are 63 JFs listed on the pilot site for 1806-1810 for England and that won't include all of them.
