Gilbert family York

My grandad was born in york in 1903 and he lived there until 1930,before moving to surrey .
I have little info on who my great grandparents were,apart from thier names.Henry gilbert and lizzy (Fitzsimmons) .I cannot even trace where they originated from,or where they are even buried .
Grandad had an older brother Ernest and four sisters .
Please can anyone point me in a direction?

My grandad was Harry,he had younger sister called Emmie,Eileen,laura and lillie.
I do know that Eileen married into the flowers family and Laura the clark family who went to america .
Grandad was living in 10 Blenheim cottages Monk gate York in 1924.
I also know his birth address qhich was 3 garfield terrace york in 1903,that is where I presume his elder brother was borne ? beyond that ,its a mystery.

I can't find a match for them in 1901 or 1911...not with the information given....I did find and Ernest Gilbert b. York 1897..but can't find a match either in 1901 or 1911 for him with the above mentioned parents...neither can I find Harry in 1911

My dad said he remembers grandad saying his dad lived at 6 Bristow road camberley in 1934 ,this is with grandad and my nana .
He is listed as a mechanic on thier marriage cert and labourer on grandads birth cert in 1903.

Things are not adding up with the info you have provided Michael...I cannot find any record of a Gilbert /Fitzsimmonds marriage...apart from Harry and Ernest's dates of birth in York...nothing else seems to fit:
There are no matching births that I can find in york after Harry in 1903.

Again the brick wall.I know for a fact the birth cert of my grandad harry has him at 3 garfield tce york in 1903 and his mother as Lizzie Gilbert(Fitzsimmons)
Prehaps his father henry or even harry Gilbert married Lizzie somewhere else? I do know that grandad joined the irish husars in 1924 while the family mlived in 10 Blenheim cottages york .Is it possible there is the Irish link? My dad remembers something about a tale about the potatoe famine? going around ,I never even thought of looking in ireland for Gilbert conection.
this is so frustrating ! prehaps they were all spys working for MI5 !!

There is a tree on ancestry for this family.

This has them living at 3 Pembroke Lane (Mansion House, Dublin) in 1911.  Maybe they were in Ireland at the time of the 1901 census too.

A sister Lily born in 1906 in Knaresborogh married Reginald S Sargent in York in 1927 address 10 Blenheim Cottages.  Her parents are give as Ernest/Harry Gilbert b. 1875 and Elizabeth/Lizzie Fitzsimmons b. 1881 (no places of birth or marriage given).
