North Irish Horse Regiment WW1
« on: Monday 01 November 10 04:53 GMT (UK) »
I am researching men who served with the North Irish Horse in World War 1 to add to a webpage honouring these soldiers and would appreciate hearing from anyone whose ancestor served with this regiment.  Patricia

Thank you for this information.  I'm really keen to find out what happened to him after the war and if there is a photo somewhere.

Thank you for mention of the recently published Richard Doherty book, which I have seen.  Actually I'm assisting my son with his webpage - www.northirishhorse.com.au - mainly searching for photos of N.I.H. men.  I was fortunate to find John McGuigan's papers among the Burnt Records, but nothing further on his life.  I really appreciate the help and interest taken.

Might have some more details to add to the website on casualties but will have to search through my WWI notes as I don't have the soldiers listed by regiment. Is it alright to use the contact address on the Home page to send information?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

my first posting,

i'm trying to trace another north irish horse member from the 1st war.

his name was Philip James Balmer he was my great grandfather and he died when i was 9. i only wish that i was old enough to understand what he was saying to me as it was only in his later years that he began to talk about the war.

i believe he joined in 1915 from belfast or bangor.

any help would be most helpfull, thanking you in advance

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=1270637&queryType=1&resultcount=1

Theres a James Balmer listed on the Medal Cards to the NIH?

Any surviving records should be on ancestry...theres a service record of a James Balmer from Co Antrim on there.Possiblity?
