Welcome to Rootschat

Looking on FreeBMD at http://freebmd.org.uk there is a birth registration for a Catherine HURLEY, Sep qtr 1906, Greenwich, 1d 1063. Ordering her birth certificate from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ will give both parents names. They cost £9.25 and do not take very long to get to you.

The 1911 UK census should provide info on her parents and siblings. We are not allowed to do lookups as yet. You have to look yourself at http://www.1911census.co.uk/

Looking at the baptisms for Deptford St Paul, which is in the Greenwich area, there is the following - note the birth date
1906 Jun 27, Catherine, d/o Augustus & Caroline HURLEY, 34 Catherine Grove, General dealer, born 1906 Jun 10

There was another child to this couple in 1904, Charles Edward and the father is given as William Augustus.

Looks like the birth certificate is the first thing on the list, to confirm parents.

William Augustus HURLEY married Caroline Ann CARVIN on 6 Oct 1902 at St James the Great, Bethnal Green.

Hi all  :)

This post suggests that Anndy has got the birth cert
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,515128.0.html

Doesn't it show a mother's name then?
"My dear, I think the English pronounce it 'appiness"

thank you all so much for the help, I am still trying to figure out how to use all the sites. But yes I do have a photo copy of her certificate of birth  but it does not list mother or father. I have attached a photo of it.

Moderator comment: certificate removed in accordance with Rootschat policies. Small portions are allowed for help with deciphering only. Sorry

Anndy, this is what they call a Short Certificate, you would need to get a full certificate from the GRO office.  This will give you mother & fathers name including mothers maiden name.  Place of birth.  Eyesee & wozzle have given you the references for a likely birth & the link to GRO where you can order the certificate.
Kent is a county in South East England.  If this is all rather confusing don't be shy about coming back here to ask,

And this from Tati on the other thread(this is confusing  ;))

Hi Jane  :)

I'm afraid the free 1911 census search might not be as useful as we could have hoped for. She seems to be in an institution with no other Hurleys  :-\ "

If Caroline does turn out to be her mum,she too is in an institution in 1911 aged 30 and there is also a Mary Hurley.
I would imagine the two are linked in some way.........Catherine and Caroline both in a hospital or workhouse infirmiary?
