desperately seeking info on michael/mary[maher] callaghan  , born somewhere in county cork approx 1795 , married approx 1820 and migrated to south australia in 1846 aboard "hooghly"  ,along with children -edward,james,john,michael,patrick and mary [butler]with her husband thomas and 2 children .approx 1854 they settled in bendigo , victoria . i am michael and mary's ggg grandson . naturally , i'm having heaps of trouble beceause there are just sooooo many callaghans!! anything most welcome . thanks , mick purdon. ???

Callaghan is a very common Co. Cork surname and you would need to know where in the county your family came from to start any search. Few parishes have records for the 1700s.

dear shane ,thanks for your reply and tips . unfortunately ,  although i have plenty of info on a lot of my callaghans in australia ,i cant find anything on where in co cork they come from . maybe i could try mallow heritage centre to see if they could dig something up . cheers , mick purdon.

Mallow heritage only handle part of the the north east of Co. Cork. Parish records for some areas south west county Cork and the city are available (free) on www.irishgenealogy.ie

Mallow heritage only handle part of the the north east of Co. Cork. Parish records for some areas south west county Cork and the city are available (free) on www.irishgenealogy.ie
