George King
« on: Saturday 24 September 11 11:15 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I could really use some help looking up George King. He was a chimney sweeper born in either 1856 or 1857. I have only managed to find him in the 1901 census and the 1911 census but can't find any information beyond that. In the 1901 census it states he is born in Fulham but in the 1911 census he states that he was born in St Georges Hanover sq county of Middlesex London. I also cant find the marriage of George and his wife Jane. In the 1911 census it says that they have been married for 25 years but I haven't been able to find a marriage at all in the 1880's for a George King to a Jane. It doesn't help that I am clueless about Jane's maiden name. I've tried searching everywhere but with no luck and any help looking him up would be really appreciated.
Thank you

Looking on the 1901 census his wife was born in Farnham Surrey, also the eldest child Georgina is 19yrs born in London St George the Martyr, so possibly married around 1882 possible Farnham or London area.

He lived at 121 Dean street in Holborn in 1901 and in 1911 he lived at 14 Dane street Holborn, both in the civil parish of St Andrew Holborn Above the Bars

Thanks Judy but I've tried looking for the eldest daughter Georgina before and haven't been able to find her before the 1901 census and haven't been able to find anything in Farnham Surrey area either

Did  George and Jane have other christian names ?

According to Family search:
George Smyth King married Jane Dixson 4/6/1882 Newington Surrey
or
George Edward King married Jane Rebecca Williamson 27/5/1880 St Clement Danes Westminster.

It seems strange that I can't find either Georgina or Walter for the 1891 census.

I know its been really difficult. I know from previous research that it isn't George Smyth King and Jane Dixson but its the first I've heard of George Edward King and Jane Rebecca Williamson. The only children of George and Jane King that I've been able to find is Rosina (my great grandmother) and Charles.

Hi Cathy,
I have wondred if George and Jane weren't actually married and this would make sense in regards of not being able to find Georgina and Walter. I have came across the 1891 census for George King born in Marylebone before but was unsure considering he always changes his birthpace
Thanks
