Re: Henry Cecil Schwarz - Help Please
« on: Tuesday 27 December 11 10:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello Everyone, I started this thread on the London Middlesex board, but i am unsure of how to link it to this board.  The story so far  :(

I am looking for Henry Cecil Shwarz born about 1859,

Henry Cecil Schwarz married Emma Maddocks i8th may 1883, St Stephens church, St Stephens Paddington.  London.
Henry is actually Henry Cecil Rosemont Schwarz age 24yrs occupation agent.  father James Schwarz occ Banker.

known children of Henry and Emma,
18th February 1883 St Stephen Paddington born 4th January 1883
James Arthur Schwarz parents Henry Cecil Schwarz and Emma Schwarz, 10 Tavistock Crescent, father's occupation traveller

Births Mar 1883
MADDOCKS    James Arthur         Kensington    1a   27

23rd August 1885 St Luke West Kilburn born 1st February 1884
Cecilia Grace Julia De Rosemont Schwarz parents Harry Cecil De Rosemont Schwarz and Emma De Rosemont Schwarz, 10 Tavistock Crescent, father's occupation commercial agent

not sure if Heny is the father of these next 2.Births
 Dec 1889
Schwarz    Daisy Ruby        Paddington    1a   57
Mar 1892
Schwarz    Phillis May         Paddington    1a   29

but they are with Emma and the two elder ones on the 1901 census

Emma died in 1905

Henry Cecil is not found on any census records with Emma and the children,  and according to the marriage of his daughter in 1902 He is deceased.

However there is this sighting:
H.C.R. Schwarz, a cattle dealer aged 27, sailed Liverpool-New York on the Etruria, landing 12 July 1886. He was an American citizen; last place of residence was London.

His age gives an estimated DOB of 1859, consistent with his having been 24 upon marriage in 1883.

Is this Henry Cecil Swcharz

So is there anyone out there who can help me with my mystery man. :)

Thankyou

Rovert

I have not yet found Mr. Schwarz on a 1900 census.

Perhaps a coincidence...perhaps a sister?
On board the same vessel as Mr. Schwarz was a Kattie (Kittie?) Schwarz, age 26, spinster, American, last lived in London.  Mr. Schwarz is recorded on page 10, Ms. Schwarz is recorded on page 11.

Possibly not a connection, but sailing from New York to Liverpool in 1892 was a Henry Schwarz, born c1858.  I cannot view further details to determine if it was the man who sailed in 1886.

Lisa, I will look into Kattie (Kitty).  This could prove to be very useful

Lisa and Sandra:  The entry for 1892 is possibly him.  However all the findings of him refer to his occ as a travelling Agent of some description, Grocer doesn,t some how ring right somehow.

I Thankyou both  for your assistance,

I'm on my way to work (so can't look up the name) but I thought I saw a couple of census returns last night for a Henry in Ohio who was a grocer and ruled him out.

Thank you Sandra for the passenger list details.  ;)

Henry Schwarz, the grocer, returned to the states in August 1892, with his wife, Mary, age 29.  Intended destination was New York City.

It appears that this couple was living in Syracuse, NY in 1900.  He was a retail grocer; they had been married 16 years.  They didn't have any children at that time.

1870 Syracuse census:
A Henry Schwartz is living with his family.  His father (Fried?) was "Grocery Retail".
