Fee family Coragh Cloverhill
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 12:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks,
I am trying to find information on Fee family members who left Co Leitrim Ireland and went to USA. Below is a link to information I have gained so far:-

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,574426.0.html

Mary Fee (no DOB) Went to USA and married a German named Graves (phonetic sound. Probably wrong spelling)

Margaret Fee (no DOB) Also went to USA and married a German

John Fee DOB 2 June 1865 And married Mary O Rourke on 3rd May 1894 in Providence, Rhode Island

Patrick Fee DOB 30 July 1873

Michael Fee DOB 8 March 1877 was said to be a Taylor in Rhode Island. He was also jailed for some reason. Would it be possible to find out why?

As 2 family members turned up in Rhode Island its possible the others joined them. Any information on the above people would be much appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation.
Noreen

In the 1910 Census, Michael Fee appears to be an inmate in Cranston, Rhode Island in the State Workhouse House of Corrections.  It says he was married for four years, it was his 1st marriage, he immigrated in 1900, occupation - laborer, state workhouse.

In the 1920 Census, there's a Michael Fee in the House of Corrections in Cranston.  It says he was age 37 (so he got a bit younger), married, immigrated 1908, naturalized in 1912, b. Ireland, parents b. Ireland.  I kind of doubt that someone would be naturalized while in prison, but I don't really know the rules on that.

In the 1930 Providence city directory, it says that John J. Fee died 15 Sep. 1929, which appears to be the son.  There is a death record for John J. Fee, son of John & Mary, who died on that date at age 32.

The 1930 city directory also lists Eileen Fee, clerk at 85 Sprague, resides 46 Armstrong Ave.

There is also a Rhode Island death for Michael Fee, son of John & Mary, who died at age 1 month on 8 Dec. 1895.  A birth record indicates that Michael was born 24 Oct. 1895.

Apologies Shellyesq,
You mentioned Michael earlier. I see he was in the state workhouse in 1910 and still there 1920. Is it likely he committed a serious crime or would he have been there due to poverty?
