Robert BRAY
« on: Friday 17 February 12 19:50 GMT (UK) »
I'mtrying to locate the parents of ROBERT BRAY who married CHRISTIAN BRITTEN on 17 May 1784 in Quethiock , Cornwall
I believe his father was also called ROBERT but I'm finding several possibilities , so not sure of the correct one.
I know Robert & Christian had a son SAMUEL who married MARY BENNETT on 27(or 28)July
 1823 in Menheniot.
Would anybody be able to point me in the right direction, please?
I am very new to the site, but am finding many topics so  interesting to read about .

his marriage record shows him as a sojourner in Quethiock

It's not the clearest, but I think the spouse's surname is Batten, not Britten

possible for her baptism

ties in with age at burial

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=burials&id=1908318

Is this the burial for your Robert? Would give help with age if so.

well, I can't see a baptism in the surrounding parishes at the right time.

http://www.cornwall-opc.org/MAPS/parish_map.pdf

You could check parishes around Quethiock & Liskeard to make sure baptism records are available for the time. It could be that the records for one of the parishes aren't online. The area isn't that far from the county boundary so he may have been born in Devon.

Thanks again , I've just found the email address for the OPC for Liskeard  so |I'll try her.,can't find the link for Quethiock,
I've joined the Cornwall F H Soc, so I'll call them  tomorrow & try to get the details.
Great suggestion to try Devon.

I'm beginning to like the look of Devon, especially the Plymouth area. There's an extracted IGI baptism for Robert son of Robert Bray & Christian 29/6/1787 batch C052422 Stoke Damerel, Devon. Also in same batch to same parents Mary bp 25/1/1786.

I thought I'd found their son as Samuel (bap Liskeard 18/12/1796) who married Mary Bennett (born Liskeard 1801) & married in  Menheniot 1823.
Could it be I'm wrong ?
I'll look at the Plymouth entries.
Many Thanks for your time.

well, it's likely there were more children born between the marriage in 1784 & Samuel's birth. No reason to think they'd all be in the same parish. Think I missed one in Stoke Damerel - Richard, possibly a twin to Robert.

Thank you agaion Osprey, the link you sent to Family Search.org etc....was super. How do you get on to it ?
I've tried before but didn't have much success, mainly no traces. As you can tell I'm still a novice .  Any suggestions are greatly received.
I'm going to try the Plymouth/Devon pointers later this evening.
Will keep you posted if I hear anything from OPC Liskeard.
