BEDWAS Cemetery look up
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 20:42 GMT (UK) »
THOMAS THOMAS & ELLEN THOMAS

I am trying to locate the death of my Great Grandparents, last known address 29 William St, Trethomas, believed to have been buried in Bedwas cemetery.

If they were buried in Bedwas, can anyone tell me what registration district they would come under?

Electoral Roll from 1918 to 1929 indicates they were still alive at that time.

Unfortunately no middle names. I believe them to have deceased before 1941 but not 100% sure. Their birth would be approximately 1867. Daughter Annie Ellen Thomas (married name Phillips. Husband: William Phillips) may be informants

If  anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hello RVB

Welcome to Rootschat!

Bedwas would be Monmouthshire rather than Glamorganshire. See Genuki page:

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/Bedwas/index.html

Bedwas would come under Newport registration district until 1936 when it became part of Caerleon district until 1974.

Have you looked at Freebmd for possible deaths?

Kind Regards
Morgan

According to Caerphilly County Council website, Bedwas Cemetery has been in operation since 1960 so it is unlikely that they are buried there  :-\

Perhaps they are buried at Penyrheol Cemetery, Mill Rd, Caerphilly (dates from 1909)?

If not Penyrheol, they may be buried at St Barrwg's Church, Bedwas or St. John's Church, Machen.

Info on Bedwellty:

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/Bedwellty/index.html

If you click on maps and follow the links, then choose one such as Streetmap, you can see the location.  :)

Hi again

I have checked out St Barrwgs, they are either not buried there or no headstone, or headstone unreadable.

Its a nice day today, so whilst I live near to Penyrheol cemetery, today I will go to Machen and see if I can find a gravestone for you if no success will attempt to find Bedwellty cemetery but that may not be today !

PS I have checked the Glamorgan M.I's and have found nothing in the Caerphilly district for these people, but that dosent mean they are not buried in Caerphilly district it maybe they have no headstone or headstone unreadable ..... though I think the area they lived in would have come under Monmouth not Glamorgan.

Have been to St John Baptist church, Machen which appears to be the graveyard for the area, and I couldnt find them there.

I suggest putting a post on the Monmouthshire board if you havent already done so.

Have put the details on my list of ones been looked for and if ever I come across it will email you !!!

Good Luck in your search
