You can "see" almost all of the Manitoulin gravestones.

Thanks for the link vbain but unfortunately it doesn't appear to be working  :'( Thanks also Sandra, runkitty and jdc for your info. It is so much easier to get info from Canada, in England there isn't half as much transcribed on the internet and you have to go to records offices. So you have been brill, would love to know more about the area Barrie island, Gore bay, not much on wikipaedia or Google.   It must have been a struggle in the 1870's to make a homestead with 6 children after travelling all that way from a different country.

Anyway thanks again guys  :-*

Vbain thanks for that, I found some Cole graves. JDC what are the names of your cole's as had some move off the Island when they were old enough there was 7 children that came over from England and all of them had at least 3/4 + kids each so there could be an army of Cole's running around Ontario without me knowing!! I don't know the areas surrounding very well but had at least 4 cole siblings moved to simcoe county and Tossorontio and toronto after leaving the Island.

Hi Cole,

I have 2 Cole family lines Cole. The first 1 came to Canada in the early 1840s and settled in what is now the Town of Simcoe area in Norfolk Co. Ontario. My 3xg-grnadparents, William and Charity, brought their 5 children from Buckland Brewer, Devon, England and had 3 more children after arriving. I am descendant of their eldest son William.

The 2nd Cole line married into my family through a marriage to my g-grandmother's daughter, Anne. She married Richard Simon Cole, bn Peterborough. He was bn around 1865 and she in 1873. Anne and Richard lived in the Huntsville-Baysville area in the Muskokas. Richard's parents are Sarah Ann and Zacharia Cole.

I don't have any info online, but both of these families are shown in Ancestry trees by other rellies. Perhaps we are connected through one of these Cole lines :-)

Cheers for now,

JDC

Being new to this site, I have just read the various communications about Matthew Harker Cole. My wife is a descendant of John Cole. Is aanyone aware of the origination of the name Harker?
