Golding; Hartford; Conneticut
« on: Wednesday 07 March 12 12:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello.  I have reason to believe that my gr. grandfather may have been born in Kensington, Hartford, Conneticut. His name was Frederick William Arnold Golding. Born 1851. He names his father as George Arnold Golding, jeweller. If I could find out for sure then I should be able to move on with my searching.  Many Thanks. Whimsical.

Hello.I don't have Frederick until 1881 census.  This one states that he was born in Kensington; The other one is 1891 and it states that he was born in Cheltenham Gloucestershire. Thanks for helping. Whims.

On the 1881 Census, it looks like it says he was born Middlesex, Kensington.  It doesn't says anything about the US or Connecticut.

Hello, Yes this is my family. I knew some of fred's daughters, as they lived into the 1950's.
On Ancestry a couple of weeks ago, I saw a reference to him saying that he was born in Kensigton Conneticut.  Well that certainly gave me encouragement, but I can't find where I saw it!  I thought that it was Members Directory, but i just can't to get it back again. Whim.

Hi

I would not trust all you see on An***
It is quite likely that the person submitting the information has put in Kensington and the 'drop down menu' has done the rest.  Yesterday I saw on a tree on the site a member had of my OH's family - she had been born in Lancashire and christened in the USA the same day, then they were back in Lancashire for the census a few weeks later.  I hadn't realised Concorde had been around in the 1850's  ::)

Agree with the "dropdown" statement. I have come across that very thing in my research. I look at it and think.... where did that come from???

I would think it is Middlesex, Kensington..... and not Connecticut!

Well I would never have  thought of that angle.  I do see the logic of it though.  I think that to follow what I saw now would be daft.  Oh well. I will never get any further back with him, I am sure of that.  I reckon that he was misinformed as a child as to his background, and grew up thinking that what he'd been told was the truth.  I can't believe after all these years of trying that I will ever get to the bottom of him.  So I must cut him adrift, and be satisfied with what I have got of him.  At least I am right up to date from him onwards.  Thank you all for helping me, Much appreciated. Whim.
