Hi,

Looking at the Attestation form, I think Miss Rayner lived at 31 Golden Avenue, Mt Dennis.  This is in the west part of Toronto, near High Park.

ADDED - 1917 Toronto Directory has a listing for James Rayner, carp[enter], 31 Golden Avenue, Mount Dennis.

His own address is "Athlone".  There is an Athlone Road in the east end of Toronto.  However, I am more in favour of this address being Athlone Ontario.  Maybe the J means Junction??  Athlone is a very small, rural place north of Toronto.  Stephen says he is a farm labourer and he signed up in Aurora, Ontario (also north of Toronto).

Here is the link to his Attestation form.   If you would like, you can order his military file - which will give you a lot of information about him.

Not a lot of information available into the century, but names of parents would come in handy for those searching, especially when looking for a marriage...so far I didn't find him in any online Home child information... http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,355348.0.html

He enlisted in the 127th York Rangers Battalion. After arriving in England, that battalion became the 2nd Battalion, Railway Corps.

The War diaries for the 2nd Railway are available at Library and Archives Canada or you can acccess them through the Matrix project.

www.cefresearch.com/matrix/contents.htm

J.J. was referring to all the other sites that are listed pertaining to Home Children. She gave you the link. There has been a lotd of research done into Home Children in Canada and sometimes we get lucky and actually find a name that someone is looking for through those sites.

I would suggest posting his parents names if you have them as it may be the only way to find a marriage or death for him.

I would also suggest getting his full military file as there could be followup info it it, especially if he was injured overseas. The file will give his destination on return to Canada as well.

The 1921 census will be available for transcription in the next year or so but it will probably be several years before they can be accessed.

I missed it too, Mick and that's because of the hard to read jumble before it, not sure why you posted that long list again, but could you please be so kind as to set up the information you find online in a more easy to read fashion...( and less room taken up on the thread)  example:
ARMSTRONG, Stephen - age 16 arrived 1914 on the Corinthian
Departure Port: London  - 1914-06-16
Arrival Port: Quebec  - 1914-07-01
Party: Barnardo Homes - Destination: Toronto, Ontario

No need to add the other reference numbers ...also good to add a link, which if also too long can be shortened using shrink link at the bottom of the page ( scroll down for this feature )
Good practice for you anyway, as what you find in other sources may be copyright, so a transcription of your own words is best for layout and a requirement in those cases...

edited: for spelling
