Michael Family in Wales
« on: Monday 02 July 12 20:07 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Michael Family in Swansea, and I came across a chat from last yere between Jim and Stephanie - whom seem to be related.  I am trying to clarify the line and how they all fit together - I can verify up to Jacob and Rosetta Hart - he was the Solicitor and I know that there are many of the Micheals.  Any help on the order and relations would be great.

Thanks

I have Jacob Michael 1796-1882 married to Rosetta Hart 1793-1863, Jacob's Father Levi 1756- married to Rosetta?  and I believe Levi's Father is David ? - 1797 married to Rachel.  The Family was known for starting the Jewish community in Swansea and one of them was the Mayor for a short time.  these are the names I am pretty sure of the relations - however there are Michael John Michael, Jacob 1757-1835 married to Leah Hart1772-1840, Francis David 1786-1876(I think is Levi's son and many others.  My dilema is the Michaels seemed to marry alot of the Harts from Penzance and so I am trying to weed out how many cousins married.

Thanks

Yes that is the thread I was reading, I don't usually add people to my tree until I can confirm with a factual piece of paper or article.  I have read all the articles I could find on the internet regarding this family, but I am in Canada and cannot pop to the Swansea archives anytime soon.

There is/was a Michael family in Ystradgynlais in the (19th. This family might have come from Llanddeusant.  Michael appears as a Welsh surname via the patronymic system.

Canada GN,
Interested to hear from you - wondering how your family line connects to Jacob Michael and Rosetta Hart.
The Walduck Family Tree on Ancestry may have some info for you, along with several other of the trees there.
There is a need to find the Jewish Records for Swansea and Penzance in order to document the earlier Michael and Hart families. The Cambrian Index Online has some valuable family newspaper reports.
