Broomfield Family
« on: Wednesday 25 July 12 04:22 BST (UK) »
I am traveling to Scotland in August and want to connect with the Broomfield family history. My Broomfields are from the Lauder area. David Broomfield born 1780 was factor of Thirlestane Castle. David is my 4x grandfather. Son was Thomas Broomfield, born 1822. His son, Thomas Logan Broomfield, born 1861. He joined the service under the name Thomas Moss. His sister was Elizabeth and she lived in Lauder. I have part of the sale bill from her castle. I would love to have any info on cemeteries and other history. Thank you

Broomfield is quite common name in the Scottish Borders.  I'll have alook through some of my books re Lauder (Berwickshire) and surrounding area.

Could be a good idea to check out the other surrounding counties of Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, and Midlothian.

Thank you for the reply. I continue to search on-line for connections and such. I do have information back to my 5x great-grandfather Thomas Broomfield and hope it is correct. While in the Lauder area, I hope to find records, cemetary and such. I can see from my family tree that there must be many Broomfields.

Thank you for all the information. I have several of these names on my tree. I will try and order that book today. I knew David was a factor at the castle and I also have a picture of a sampler made by his daughter Elizabeth when she was 8. The sampler is currently held in a museum in Wales. I am very excited about coming to Scotland. I have always heard many family stories and have what remains of the family objects brought to America. My father always dreamed of visiting Scotland but due to his disability, was unable. I am going to stay at the Broomfield Bed & Breakfast in Lauder. I thought that would be fitting for my first time there. I appreciate all the information as I research for my visit.
