Thomas and Margaret Morris Morpeth
« on: Wednesday 06 March 13 03:36 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on the Thomas and Margaret Morris prior to their immigration to the United States. I have found some information on miller family, but I'm at a dead end on the Morris family. all I know is he was a coalminer and married Margaret miller in 1899,  came to the US in 1910 and settled in Frontenec Kansas. Nothing prior to his marriage.

just had a look at the freebmduk on this ....  i think u may need to find the pr for the marriage in 1899 (10b 477 March q Morpeth), or actually purchase the certificate to get the fathers name of thomas given there are numerous of them born. he possibly born around 1880......      do you have him on an american census as an age or approximate year....?
so that some one may track a 1901 census or bmd reference.....

The following may give clues about age/ names of parents

Marriage certificate  - entry is in Q1 1899,Morpeth on FreeBMD to get the references, cert obtainable either from the GRO (£9.25) or the Northumberland registrar (£10) the local registrar has their own site (GRO ref does not help them) http://registrar.northumberland.gov.uk/certificates/Search.aspx

Census returns - 1901 England, 1910 onwards in the US

Passenger lists showing the couple (and any children) going to the US

Naturalisation records for Thomas and his family - they often have details of birthplace etc

There are a good few Thomas Morris names turning up in Northumberland in 1901 census, without knowing at least an age for 'your' Thomas its difficult to guess which one may be him. If you know his approx birth year, or Margaret's or any names / dates of children born prior to 1901 then that would also help to pin them down on the census.

An online tree suggests that Thomas was born in 1873 and died 1932. The family arrived US in 1912 and were in Frontenac in 1920. Daughter, Mary, born 1902, Bedlington.  So the family that I've listed look a good possible.

Passenger list of Arabic - Liverpool to Boston (dept. 10 Sept 1912) record

Margaret Morris, hswife, 33
Mary, child, 10
James, child, 7
Jacob, child, 4 1/2 (?)

So maybe Thomas left in 1910 and Margaret and the children followed.

The 1920 US census would appear to confirm the 1901 family:

Arrival dates also fit with the passenger list.

I'll look in Bedlington area  for your Thomas  (b.c. 1873) prior to 1901 now  :)
