That looks pretty good to me, NigelG!

Mexico Row sound a bit exotic for Neath!!

I'm very grateful to you for that, thanks  ;)

Very cosmopolitan!  ;D

Apparently it was just off London Road which is the main road between Briton Ferry and Neath - where Catherine ran the pub in 1861!  :)

I've just noticed the big gap in the children's ages in 1841.

I wonder if William was really a grandchild, but brought up as Catherine's? Or Catherine was a second marriage?

Now I have a name for John Senior I can start to think about looking for marriages - wish me luck!  Especially if Catherine was a second wife!

We went along the motorway past Neath and Briton Ferry last week.  Had planned to call in, but got rained off the Gower when our tent leaked.  Next time...

Of interest, from the Genuki pages for Glamorgan:

Quote
Briton Ferry (50); Briton Ferry; Cemy; Colliery (disused); Court (or Cwrt) Sart Fm.; Giant's Grave; Goytre; Hosp.; Mynydd Gaer; Pont-Howell-ddu; Reservoir; Ynysmaerdy

Anyone any idea what that translates as?

Cwrt Sart is an area within Neath - Cwrt is the Welsh for Court - Sart is a name - the Fm I assume is an abbreviation for Farm so Sart Court Farm or Cwrt Sart Farm  ???

Also forgot to say - the big age gap is a bit odd (but not unusual) but there is a definite distinction made between the grand daughter Jane and William the son on the 1851 census.

If Mary Jones is the eldest child (20 on 1841 Census) - the nearest John Jones and Catherine X marriages I can find c 1819/1820 are:

John Jones & Catherine Evans in Merthyr Tydfil 30th December 1819
John Jones & Catherine Lewis in St Mary Swansea 22nd August 1819 OR
John Jones & Catherine Rhydderch in St Mary Swansea 7th July 1820

Marriages previous to this are for a John Jones from Brecon (i.e. not born in county) and would make them both c16 when they got married. Personally I think the Lewis marriage is the best match but again that's just my interpretation of what I can find  :)

My thanks again, Nigel!

I found a Welsh translation prog on the internet (my Welsh exists, but is fairly basic!!), but it couldn't do anything with Sart!

For the marriages, I prefer the Rhydderch one - only 'cos I could do with a more unusual name !!   ;D

Is there anything else to distinguish between the two - do they give any other details?  It may be fun trying to decide which one to have! Maybe death records would help - just thinking aloud here.

Thanks very much for your input.
